Wiki-Cleaner
Firefox extension that turns Wikipedia’s internal links into plain text.
What it does
- Links to other articles on the same Wikipedia become plain text; switch it off and they come back exactly as they were.
- Citation markers like [1] and [2] are hidden while you read.
- Infoboxes, navigation tables, footnotes, edit links, external links and links to other language editions are left alone.
- Content Wikipedia loads after the page opens is cleaned too.
- One switch, in the toolbar or on right-click, and the choice is remembered.
- Works on every Wikipedia language edition; the interface is in English or Turkish.
- Problem
- Every blue word in a Wikipedia article is an invitation to open one more tab.
- My role
- My own project: idea, design, development.
- Solution
- A plain JavaScript extension that runs only on Wikipedia article pages and asks for two permissions, storage and contextMenus. It makes no network requests and stores only the on/off switch.
- Result
- Published on Firefox Add-ons for Firefox 142 and later. Each release is tested, signed by Mozilla and published by CI from a tagged commit; the latest is v1.3.0, under MIT.
